The VMail-Box is SafecomLink’s asynchronous messaging feature, providing a guaranteed delivery mechanism for exchanging messages over radio frequencies.
Core Functionality
Guaranteed Delivery: A VMail is held in the Outbox and is only sent when a connection to the recipient is active, followed by a delivery confirmation.
EmComm Ready: VMails are frequently used in emergency communications (EmComm), supporting standardized formats like ICS templates. Messages composed in EmComm mode are automatically marked as Urgent.
Relaying and Retrieval
Parking: VMails can be temporarily stored or "parked" at a mediator station for a third-party recipient if a direct connection is impossible.
Relay Notifications: When the recipient's beacon is detected, the mediator station automatically sends a "relay notification alert" via broadcast. The presence of a waiting VMail is highlighted by a small envelope icon on the main screen's Beacons list.
Finding a Path: If a direct connection fails, users can employ tools like Path Finder (via broadcast) or inquire via Last Heard Peeking to identify a nearby station capable of serving as a mediator to relay the VMail.
