Unattended Links

Updated: Dec 29, 2025

The SafecomLink Unattended Links feature, paired with the "I'm away" functionality, allows a station to remain operational and accessible for receiving critical messages even when the operator is physically away from the console. This ensures constant team availability, a crucial element in emergency communications (EmComm).

Key Value Proposition

The Unattended Links feature serves as a guardrail for messages, ensuring that the station is actively listening for incoming transmissions and can respond appropriately, primarily to receive VMail messages or maintain beaconing, even when the operator cannot monitor the screen.

Operational Details and Benefits

  • Status Indicators:

    • The system includes an "I'm away (Auto)" checkbox on the main screen.

    • The automatic away mode is triggered if no operation is performed within the SafecomLink application for a configured number of minutes. If manual control is desired, the "auto away" feature can be disabled under settings.

    • If you connect to a station that is set to "I'm away" status, a message will be automatically sent from the away station to inform you, and you will be asked if you want to leave a message in the mailbox.

  • Controlling Incoming Connections:

    • If the operator needs to disable incoming connections for any reason while maintaining beaconing functionality (which is permissible under certain regulations, such as FCC Part 97.221), they can uncheck the "Unattended links" box.

  • VMail and File Delivery While Unattended:

    • SafecomLink allows users to send files and images quickly, even to unattended stations.

    • If someone attempts to send a file that exceeds the predefined size limit while the recipient is in the "I'm away" status, the file will be automatically rejected.

The feature ensures that communication flows remain uninterrupted, leveraging automated functions like the VMail relay system and "I'm away" status to serve as digital watchdogs over the radio link.
