Frequency scheduler

Updated: Dec 29, 2025

The Frequency scheduler feature in SafecomLink is designed for efficient, autonomous management of radio resources by automatically adjusting the operating frequency and band throughout the day.

Operational Functionality

The main purpose of the Frequency scheduler is to configure SafecomLink to automatically change frequency to different frequencies/bands at specific times. This is particularly useful for stations wanting to operate on different propagation windows, such as setting the radio to 20 meters during the daytime and 40 meters at night. This functionality ensures optimal message delivery 24/7 and is used to help maintain contact with EmComm stations around the clock.

Key mechanisms include:

  1. Configuration: The scheduler allows configuration of up to schedules, defined by a precise time and a corresponding Frequency.

  2. Real-Time Execution: If the program is started after a scheduled time has passed, the scheduler recognizes the current time slot and automatically switches to the appropriate frequency immediately, rather than waiting for the next scheduled event.

  3. Dependency: This feature relies entirely on transceiver CAT control being configured in the software, as it needs to command the transceiver to change frequency.

  4. Startup Mode: Operators can define how the scheduler activates upon launching SafecomLink, setting it to ACTIVE, INACTIVE, or retaining the LAST STATE from the previous session.

EmComm Integration (Change-frequency Notification)

When operating in EmComm mode, the Frequency scheduler has an integrated safety feature:

  • Change-frequency notification via Broadcast: When an automatic frequency change is triggered by the scheduler in EmComm mode, the system can send a broadcast notification to all stations immediately before the change occurs. This alerts other operators of the frequency shift.
