The File/Image transfer feature provides a mechanism for the lightning-fast exchange of various data types, including binary files and images across radio frequencies. This functionality is vital in crisis scenarios (EmComm) for swiftly sharing critical information such as maps, documents, or photos.
Core Functionality
Process: To send a file, the transmitting station initiates a "send file request". The receiving station can approve the request either manually or automatically.
Compression and Viewing: The feature includes support for file compression to reduce transmission time. Received images are displayed as compact thumbnails in the data stream, and users can click them to open the image viewer for expansion.
Safety Limits: Operators can configure an incoming file size limit (in bytes). Files received during an active Link that exceed this limit require explicit manual approval.
Network Capabilities: File transfers can be utilized in conjunction with Digipeaters.
