Encryption

SafecomLink provides a flexible and compliant approach to encryption, adapting to the capabilities of each modem while keeping configuration simple and consistent.

📡 PACTOR Modems

PACTOR handles encryption at the modem level. However, the configuration and control are fully managed through SafecomLink.

This includes:

  • Centralized setup of encryption parameters

  • Support for automatic encryption workflows

  • Use of predefined keys for structured and repeatable connections

This approach simplifies operations while still leveraging the modem’s built-in encryption capabilities.

📡 VARA Modems

With VARA, encryption is fully managed by the modem itself. Configuration is done directly within the VARA settings, and SafecomLink works seamlessly alongside it without interfering. This allows operators to use VARA’s native encryption mechanism as designed.

🔐 Why Encryption Matters

Radio transmissions are inherently open and can be received by anyone with the right equipment. Encryption provides:

  • Privacy – keeping transmitted data confidential

  • Integrity – ensuring messages are not altered

  • Security – preventing unauthorized access

These are critical in professional, emergency, and commercial communication scenarios.

⚠️ Regulatory Compliance

encryption is not allowed on amateur radio bands. Therefore encryption features are disabled for amateur radio use.

They are available only in SafecomLink commercial packages, where secure communication is permitted under appropriate licensing.

When a secure encrypted link is established, both users are clearly shown an “Encrypted Link” indication on their screen.
