Alert Center & Alert Tags

Updated: Dec 29, 2025

The Alert Center and Alert Tags are critical features in SafecomLink (VarAC), primarily leveraged during emergency communication (EmComm) operations to ensure timely and effective notification throughout the network.

Alert Tags: Definition and Use

Alert Tags are predefined text strings that, when received, trigger immediate auditory and visual alarms on receiving stations.

  • Mechanism: When a configured alert tag is detected in a beacon, CQ call, broadcast, or chat message, an alarm sound is fired, and the triggering message is highlighted in a customizable color. The sound for alert tags can be disabled under the "Appearance and sounds" menu.

  • EmComm Value: Alert tags are a vital tool for the rapid distribution of critical messages throughout the entire EmComm network within seconds. They ensure widespread awareness of incidents with just one transmission.

  • Configuration: Users can define and share the agreed-upon alert tags (which are stored in a configuration file) among their EmComm networks prior to an operation. The visualization of the alert (font/background color) can be customized by the user.

  • Email Integration: If the station operates an email gateway, certain received alerts can be configured to be automatically forwarded via email notification to one or more recipients. Replies to these email alerts are converted back into a VMail and queued for delivery to the originating station, closing the communication loop.

  • Sources of Alerts: Alert tags are monitored across multiple sources, including Beacons, Call-outs, Broadcasts, and Chat/Datastream messages.

Alert Center: Management of Notifications

The Alert Center functions as a centralized dashboard for managing these high-priority notifications. Alerts are organized into tabs: Incoming, Sent, and Archived.
