The Path finder is a crucial feature within SafecomLink designed to establish a route for delivering messages to a station that cannot be reached directly, often involving a third-party intermediary. It is specifically used to find a viable VMail path to an unreachable station.
Functionality of Path Finder
When a direct connection to the desired recipient fails, the Path finder initiates a request to the network to identify an intermediate station capable of relaying the message.
Initiation: The originating station (A) sends a "Path find to C" call (where C is the destination station).
Response: Any station (B) that decodes this request and has recently heard the target station (C) will respond with a "PATH FINDER REPLY" broadcast.
Information Provided: The relaying station's response contains valuable information about the last contact with the target station, such as the frequency, the time it was last heard, and the SNR level.
