The Radio Control feature in SafecomLink extends beyond basic direct CAT connectivity by integrating with several external software applications. This comprehensive approach to radio control provides significant value and flexibility to the operator.
Methods of Radio Control
SafecomLink supports controlling the transceiver's PTT (Push-to-Talk) and frequency through multiple methods:
Direct CAT Control: This method communicates directly with the radio and is the only way to utilize advanced features like Antenna Tuner controls, as external solutions like OmniRig do not support a tune option. SafecomLink supports over 100 transceiver models directly.
External "Bridge" Software: SafecomLink also supports industry-standard software protocols, including OmniRig, FLRig, and Rigctld) These applications act as a bridge to manage the radio interface.
Value of Comprehensive Radio Control
Using multiple protocols and external software offers distinct advantages:
Broader Transceiver Support: Integration with popular software like OmniRig, FLRig, and Rigctld ensures control over a wider range of transceivers, especially if direct CAT commands for a specific model are unavailable or difficult to configure. If direct CAT setup fails, an operator can still use "Bridge" software to control PTT and frequency.
Centralized Control (Simultaneous Use): Bridge software often allows multiple applications to communicate with the radio simultaneously, enabling SafecomLink to seamlessly integrate with other logging or utility programs that also rely on CAT control.
